Deputy Grand Knight’s message — September2013
Greetings Bro. Knights of Fr. Bonner Council,
“We cannot keep ourselves shut up in parishes, in our communities, when so many people are waiting for the Gospel!” — Pope Francis, speaking at WYD 2013
One of my goals I see for my mandate as DGK is to promote more involvement by the members of our Council. I have therefore started this monthly column in our newsletter to talk about the many ways we can all get involved.
As part of the New Evangelisation, we are all charged with the mission of spreading the Gospel by getting “out there”, as Pope Francis reminds us in the quotation above. Letus, then, remember to look beyond the boundaries and comforts of home and see where we canhave an impact. Ask your- self, “How can I help?” Getting more involved in our Council’sactivities is a great place to start anddoes not need that much time commitment.
Let’s start with this — There are some 350+ members of our Council, yet only a small proportion makes it to our monthly Council meetings. If you can come join us at our meetings, you will learn more about our activities and ways you can get involved. There are, in fact, several executive and director positions that need good men to take charge. The truth is, we need you! As I am supposed to take over as Grand Knight next year, I would love to face the challenge of having so many of our Knights attending our meetings that we cannot all fit into the room.
Here are some other ideas:
• The Knights are helping out (meal prep and service) at the Marian Centre on several dates.
• Our first pancake breakfast is on Sunday, September 27. Volunteers are needed. (This was one of the first things I did as a new Knight. It’s easy and fun!)
• Contribute content to our Council website — www.kofc7599.org
Do you think you can contribute? Don’t know how to get started? Give me a shout. Let’s talk!
Vivat Jesus!
