Grand Knight Elect’s message — June 2016
Columbian Year 2015–2016 has now come to an end. However, our charitable work as a Council continues as we enter the new Columbian Year on July 1. We will resume our meetings and activities in September.
Our first major activity under the Community Program for 2016–2017 will be the Habitat for Humanity project scheduled on September 9 and 10. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian organization founded in 1976 that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness one family at a time. Members of our council with a trade background or even those that just like to be active can volunteer their time and talents to this activity. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Bro. Wally Streit.
The Church Program activity leading the 2016–2017 Columbian Year is the K of C Mass scheduled on Sunday, September 18 at 8:30 AM. This church activity helps our Council to become more integrated into our parish and through the sponsorship of the K of C Mass, we as a Council show that we are the strong right arm of the Church. We would like to invite our Brother Knights to attend this mass and volunteer as adult server, lectors, and Eucharistic ministers. Our Church Director and K of C Mass Chairman will be looking for a pool of volunteers that could serve during these Masses. If you are interested in participating in this activity, please contact either our Church Program Director, Bro. Blaine Benson or K of C Mass Chairman Bro. Jeremy Sit.
The Council Program for 2016-2017 Columbian Year begins with the Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, September 25. Fraternal bonding of the Brother Knights occurs during this activity. It also involves the families of the Brother Knights. If you are interested in participating in this activity, you can contact either Bro Real Demers or Bro Paolo Festa-Bianchet.
“I must give to others not only something that is my own, but my very self; I must be personally present in my gift.” So wrote Pope Benedict XVI in his encyclical on charity, Deus Caritas Est. His statement reflects the core of the charitable work of the Knights of Columbus, the giving of ourselves through volunteer service.
Have a blessed summer!
Vivat Jesus!
