Grand Knight’s message — December 2014

Brother Knights, Ladies, and families,

How fast time flies!  In our everyday lives, our year seems to start in September — students return to school, and all sorts of activities start up again, including church activities and organisations like our own Knights of Columbus.  So when we look at the calendar and see that it already reads December, it’s a reminder of how busy things get and how fast time flies.  It always seems to be a combination of “I didn’t get everything done!” and “I still have so much to do!”  Tempus fugit.

Our Church’s previous liturgical year has just recently ended with the Solemnity of Christ the King, where we are reminded that Jesus will come again at the end of time to judge us on how we treated those of our brothers and sisters who were most in need — the sick, the hungry, the poor, the neglected, the forgotten.  So, though time flies, and we are so busy, so engrossed in our own pursuits — our work, our interests, even our families — we would do well to take a moment to reflect on what really is important.  Memento mori.

The Advent season that opens the new liturgical year is an exciting time as we prepare for the arrival of Christ on earth, born as one of us, to save us in ways we can never truly deserve.  He is God’s gift to us, given in grace, because He loved us first, even before we knew Him, even when we don’t love Him the way we know we could and should.  The gift of Jesus Christ to us should fill us with great joy and great hope — now, if great gifts are to be shared, how do we share this greatest gift of all?
