Grand Knight’s message — October 2014
Brother Knights,
The Columbian Year is off to a flying start. This past month we had the successful launch of the Parish’s grocery card program, for which our Council members are providing the volunteers. We also had two Build Days with Habitat for Humanity on Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13. I tagged along as a photographer on the second day and got to observe my Brother Knights and their Ladies doing what they do best — service to others.
This month brings us our fall membership drive, starting the weekend of October 11/12, followed by a First Degree Exemplification on October 21. Do you know of any Catholic gentlemen who are not members of the Knights of Columbus but would be open to finding out more? Pass the information on to our membership team (Bro. Paolo and Bro. Wally). You can do your part by answering candidates’ questions and living the Order’s values of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.
Starting also is the annual Charities Appeal Campaign. This fundraising drive involves a raffle with two vehicles as main prizes and a cash early-bird prize. How can you help? It’s easy — simply help us sell tickets (just $5 each) to family and friends. Don’t forget to buy some for yourself too! A portion of the net proceeds comes into our Council’s Charities Appeal account to be used to support charitable causes of our choice.
October also brings of course Thanksgiving, which while thematically related to the fall harvest season, has religious historical roots. This is a time for gatherings of family and friends and community in thanks to God for his generous blessings in our lives.
Brothers, please consider how you can be more involved in the Church and in our Council and Order. You might ask, “What do I have to offer?” The answer is that you can do far more than you might realise, and the reason is that God has blessed each one of us with a unique voice and a unique set of talents. Isn’t the best way to use these treasures to bring them out in service to our neighbours and thereby glorify God’s Kingdom? This is true Thanksgiving!
May God continue to abundantly bless you and your family. Thanks be to God!
Fraternally yours,
Bro. Jeremy Sit
