Greetings Brothers,
The month of May is here and with it brings warmer temperatures and a greener landscape, but more importantly “Mother’s Day”. On May the 11th Mothers and Wives will be thanked and pampered, but please remember to keep in our thoughts and prayers the Widows and Families of our departed Brothers.
State Convention
Deputy Grand Knight; Steve Hughes and I represented your Council at the 98th Annual State Convention last month. Congratulations to our Worthy State Deputy Wally Streit who ran an excellent meeting and was appointed to be our State Deputy for the 2008/2009 term. Brother Brad Cody resigned as our State Treasurer and Brother Phil Birch from Council #7070 was elected. All other State Executive positions will remain the same for the 2008/2009 term.
Past State Deputy Brother Leo Klein announced that the new representative for the Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation for Edmonton will be Brother Dr. Randy Yatscoff.
Congratulations to our District Deputy Brother Lou Normand and his committee for providing a convention that will be hard to top. Our Council helped out with the registration, State Deputy’s Banquet, and provided door prizes for the Friday night Meet & Greet. I would like to thank Brother Arnold Lorenz for taking care of the registration for the convention, Brother Wayne Zuchotzki and his team; Brothers Dave Wehage, Tony Martino and Clint Hagel for volunteering at the banquet, and to Brothers Arnold Lorenz and Brennan Stewart for the donations of door prizes for the Friday night Meet & Greet. Steve’s as well as my family attended the activities offered, and had an opportunity to meet new people and see old friends, and had an excellent time.
Our Council received some awards as well:
1. Winner: Community Activity Award for the 1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Congratulations to Brother’s Mitch De la Salle, Ken Schwartz and James Wilson. A write-up on the tournament can be seen in the April Western Catholic Reporter page 19.
