Greetings Ladies and Brother Knights,
This year Mothers day falls on Sunday May 10th. To the Mothers and Wives of the Brother Knights of the Father Bonner Council I would like to thank you for your support, without it our Council would not be as active and successful as it is.
Welcome Brother Fred Shinkaruk who became a new Knight at a First Degree held on April 12th, I encourage you all to introduce yourselves and show him our support. Our Council still requires new members to meet the Council goal; I encourage you to ask a Practical Catholic Gentleman to join our great order.
There will be a Major Degree held on Saturday May the 9th at St. Joe’s High school. For more information or to register contact Bro. Paolo (780-433-7282 or Paolo.Festa-Bianchet@doccio.com.)
On Thursday May 7th the 2nd Annual March for Life will take place in our City. The day will start off with a Pro-Life mass at 10:30am with Archbishop Richard Smith and other Alberta Bishops celebrating the mass at St. Joseph’s Basilica. The rally will start at 1:00pm with the march commencing at 1:30 from the Legislature through downtown returning back to the Legislature for some speeches. We as Knights and Catholic Gentlemen need to show our support and “Defend Life.” For more information contact Bro. Dave Wehage (780-463-9085 or dwrw_67@yahoo.ca,) .
On September 11th, 2009; St. Thomas More Parish will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. Matt Oryschak at oryschak@telus.net or 780-434-5955.
Congratulations to State Deputy elect Neil Gannon who was voted in at the State Convention in April. I would remiss if did not take this opportunity to thank the soon to be Past State Deputy Wally Streit. Your commitment to our State and the Order has been tremendous.
Congratulations to the Charities Appeal Committee; Brothers Paul Liber, Arnold Lorenz, Ken Shivak, Anthony White and their volunteers who once again are number 1 for total ticket sales with $11,210.00 sold in this year’s campaign. Thank you for your commitment and all your hard work.
Congratulations to our District Deputy Brother Lou Normand and District 14 on receiving the Best All-Around District and Councils award at this year’s State Convention. Father Bonner Council also was First Runner up for the Fraternal Council of the year award.
It is that time of year again when the Council elections will be taking place. Past Grand Knights; Bro. Michael Jette and Bro. Ken Vincent form the nominating committee. This committee is required to bring forward a slate of names of Brother Knights that want to assume one of the positions. The elections will be held at June Council meeting, with the installation of Officers taking place at the Awards Night bbq on June 13th. If you are interested in letting your name stand contact the Nominating Committee or one of the executive, before the May meeting.
The Awards night BBQ will be held on June 13th in the Church hall. All Brother Knights and their wives are invited to attend this year end Fraternal event. Stay tuned to the Council web-site for more information.
After the May meeting there will be sandwich trays, coffee, juice, pop and there also will be multiple gift cards being offered for Pennies for Heaven during the fraternal portion of the meeting. I encourage all Brothers to attend this second last meeting before the summer break.
